Location & Appearance

The project is located at the former power station site within the Marchwood Industrial Park, and is adjacent to the waste incineration plant operated by Veolia. This site was selected primarily because of its previous use as a power station, though the new power station will occupy just a small part of the old power station site.

The Marchwood site is ideal as it offers:

- Efficient re-use of brownfield land rather than development of a greenfield site;
- A location already designated for power station use in the local development plan;
- Access to existing infrastructure from the previous power station;
- Source of local, skilled labour during construction and operation.

The power station has been designed to minimize the visual impact on its surroundings. Physically, the plant comprises two elements: the main power station buildings and two chimney stacks. There will be no visible plumes from the plant’s chimney stacks under normal operations.

Particular attention has been paid to the visual appearance of all buildings and discreet colour schemes have been chosen to blend in with the surroundings. Appropriate landscaping will help further to reduce any visual impact.
